Here is what else you can expect from Key West tours and how you can use them to have a

superb time when you are in the Florida Keys.

Key West tours come with a range of options

When you are on Key West tours you get a get a wide range of options. This means that you can press the

button to go on tours to the island for anywhere between one day and a week and have a wonderful time as there

is so much to choose from. Importantly, you can experience a variety of Key West tours even if you only have

one day to spend in the city.

This means that as soon as you step off the bus in the island you can start the day with a food tour that takes you

to the best restaurants in the city and sample many different varieties of Key Lime Pie. Then later on you can

discover the history of the region of which there is plenty as you head to the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum and

gaze at its gold artifacts.

At this museum which has several items from the shipwreck of the “Senora Nuestra de Atocha” you can also

check out large emeralds one of which is a 77.76 carat crystal that is hexagonal in shape. The island city has a rich history, from

the "Little White House," to the Ernest Hemingway House; you'll get the opportunity to see all these and more.

And then, there are many vacationers who cannot think beyond snorkeling, fishing, kite boarding, scuba diving,

and kayaking on their Key West holiday.

Drinking margaritas is a noted pastime and you’ll always find a festival or two to celebrate here! If you have

plans to visit this tropical paradise sometime soon, then the popular transportation options include:

Enjoy a Pleasant Flight Journey: An Expensive Affair

Key West International Airport is served by different airlines, though a short runway keeps away big jets from

landing. You may board direct flights from Charlotte, Atlanta, and most prominent Floridian cities. There are

also some flights for Key West that leave from the Bahamas. A well-known route to fly in is through Miami

International Airport or Fort Lauderdale International Airport.

Comfortable Bus Journey for Travelers

You may also take bus tours from Miami. The tours usually depart from Miami Beach during the early hours of

the day. Make your reservations, board a comfortable bus and enjoy a smooth ride across the Overseas Highway

and 7-Mile Bridge. The tour widens your scope to do some sightseeing en route and spend about 6 hours in the

island city. You may also expect complimentary hotel pick-up from select hotels on Miami Beach & Downtown

Miami. Once you are in Key West, you can also take public buses to see the city and its promising attractions.

Scenic Sail Routes

You can take high-speed passenger ferries that depart on a routine basis from Ft. Myers Beach and Marco

Island. The ferries are harbored at the Key West Bight Ferry Terminal in the heart of the Historic Seaport

District. This very destination is adorned with fine restaurants, bars and shops. From here, you can take a walk

to Duval Street and explore the nearby attractions on your own pace.

The ferry ride takes about 3.5 hours and the Ft. Myers Beach vessels can accommodate up to 450 passengers.

The ferries are loaded with amenities including flat-screen TV's, out-door sundecks, galley service, and a full

bar. The Marco Island vessel too features similar amenities; the only difference is that it can accommodate up to

250 passengers.

Enjoy a Car Ride and Take in Beautiful Sights

The Overseas Highway ends in Key West, and connects the different Keys’ towns with mainland Florida. This

in turn provides links into the US Interstate network, hence traveling to Key West is simple. You will take about

three and a half hours to reach the island city from Miami. However, driving around the town is a bit

challenging and you may have to spend a fortune for long-term parking as well.

From Miami International Airport, you need to take LeJeune Road south to 836 West. Next, follow the Florida

Turnpike south toward Key West and continue riding. The Turnpike terminates at US 1 in Florida City. From

here, you need to keep riding towards US 1 south and soon you will be in Key West.

With multiple transportation options to choose from, traveling to Key West doesn’t seem to be a challenging

endeavor.

Key West Tours - Things to do On an Unforgettable Trip to the Dry Tortugas

Have you heard of this place called Dry Tortugas? 7 tiny islands make up the Dry Tortugas which is 70 miles

west of Key West in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. It not only famous for its amazing beaches and natural

beauty but also has a strong historic background.

A private vessel, high-speed ferry, or seaplane can be used to get to the Island. Dry Tortugas is America’s most

remote National Park. The largest Island is called Garden Key and is well known for America’s largest coastal

fort, Fort Jefferson. Include Dry Tortugas in your Key West tours and you won’t be disappointed.

Fun things to do on a trip to Dry Tortugas:

Visit Fort Jefferson: Fort Jefferson was built in the 19th century to protect the southern coastline of the United

States. The entire structure is made with over 16 million handmade bricks and has six sides making the fort a

very unique historic landmark.

During the civil war the fort was used as a prison and is also known for holding the famous Dr. Samuel Mudd

for his involvement in the Lincoln murder. Every day at the fort there are my guided tours that you can join and

get to know more about the place, but if you are looking to guide yourself around and explore the fort on your

own there are a lot of signs around to help you with that.

Go snorkeling: With the depth of the water ranging from 5-15 feet it makes the best place to snorkel for people

of all ages. The waters here are full of colorful tropical fish, living and dead corals, and shipwrecks all waiting

to be explored. You get a chance to swim with queen conchs, sea grass, starfish, coral heads, and vibrant

tropical fish making it an experience of a lifetime. You must keep in mind not to disturb the coral reefs or

tamper with the shipwrecks are they are all protected by the law.

Relax at the beach: Your daytrip will be incomplete without you spending some time in one of the best

beaches of the Florida Keys. The white sandy beaches of Dry Tortugas are perfect for swimming, sun bathing or

just playing with your children and building sand castles. The different beaches here are South Swim Beach,

Seaplane Beach, Dinghy Beach, and North Swim Beach.

Enjoy bird watching: The seven small island of Dry Tortugas is a bird watcher’s paradise. Hundreds of

migrating birds make a pit stop here on their long journey from South America to the United States. Close to

300 species of birds have been spotted on the islands, on an average spring day one can easily see around 70

different species.

Camp outdoors: Camping under the stars is always a fun thing to do and it gets better when you are on an

island 70 miles from civilization. Lie under the stars and let the mysterious sound of the ocean put you to sleep

while the warm tropical breeze comforts you.

So if you are planning a day trip on your Key West Tours make sure to look up Dry Tortugas. The sights and

sounds of the area are sure to make fall in love with it and send you back home with sweet memories to share

with your friends and family.

www.KeyWestTours.com

No one ever leaves Key West

without getting their fill of dolphins. And rightly so. There’s something very special about these beautiful

creatures.

Not only are they so beautifully shaped, they are also so playful and very intelligent. It’s such a joy to watch

them do the sky hops – those absolute joyful leaps in the air…and then splash down back again. The sight

becomes even more beautiful when it is silhouetted against the golden glow of that breathtaking Florida sunset.

Both, the bottle nosed dolphins and the spotted dolphins are a common sight on any Key West tours.

Dolphins in the wild

There are two species of dolphins living in the Florida Keys – the bottle-nosed dolphin and the spotted dolphin.

There are also two types of sightings – dolphins in the wild and trained dolphins in special enclosures.

Seeing dolphins in the wild is a very special experience. This is where they are free to be completely

themselves. There are many ferry operators who have a lot of experience in this field. They know all the best

spots out at sea.

They also know how to stay a sensible distance away from the dolphins. This is very important because

dolphins are very playful and so it’s not uncommon for them to come right up to the boat. Naturally, one would

feel tempted to feed them. It is illegal to feed wild dolphins. Besides, interactions with humans can unwittingly

cause a mother and her calf to get separated and this could be dangerous for the calf.

Did you know that dolphins are not fish, they are mammals? They breathe air and give birth to their young ones,

in the water. Right at birth the young ones swim to the surface to breathe and then come down to suckle at their

mother’s mammary glands. This is why it is so important that the mother and calf should not get separated.

Trained dolphin shows at the theater of the sea

One of world’s most famous dolphin shows takes place in the Florida Keys, at Islamorada. The internationally

reputed Theater of the Sea is located here. It was one of the first places in the world to explore the possibility of

training dolphins to perform dolphin shows.

At the Theater of the Sea, you can watch dolphins jump through hoops, dance on their tails independently or in

a perfectly orchestrated group…and perform a lot of interesting tricks. They even know how to grab a paint

brush and do a painting on a sheet of paper, for you.

They are so intelligent and bond so well with humans that they can be trained to dance with you. This is where the first settlers came. In the early days, it was the Spanish

galleons that came here, because of the large stocks of drinking water – though there were wary of the sharp

coral reefs.

Later it was immigrants from the Bahamas who came seeking their fortune in the shipwrecking and turtle

canning business. The early days were rough and tough. They had to brave the fierce hurricane wind,

mosquitoes and the isolation. With their own die-hard spirit they built their lives and their homes here. Many of

them made vast fortunes in the different business here and this is reflected in the old houses and mansions you

can see as you take a walking tour of Old Town.

Curry Mansion – Caroline Street

William Curry was one of the first millionaires of Key West. His son Milton Curry built the grand Victorian

style mansion that is now the pride of Caroline Street. This grand 22 room mansion is now a homely 3 star inn.

Should you book a room here you will be taken back in time to the 1800, when a poor immigrant named

William Curry landed on the shores of Key West and worked hard to make his fortunes.

As you stroll through the rooms you can see beautiful, old style, furniture made from the now extinct Dade

County pine wood and other hardwood that was so popular because of its beautiful texture and ability to

withstand the test of time, as can be seen even today.

The cook-house at this mansion also has the historic recognition of being the kitchen where the first Key Lime

pie was baked, by a cook named Sally.

Captain George Carey House

This is probably the second oldest house in Key West. It’s a beautiful two-storey wooden house which is also

located on Caroline Street. It has an amazing history.

Drinking water as a scarce and much sought after resource by the ships that sailed past the island. Here he ran a seaport bar. He sold water, and

liquor. Over time he made a fortune.

There’s also an interesting story of how he met his wife. In a shipwreck near the island. There were five

German women on that ship. Captain Carey rescued and married one of them.

After his death a woman named Jesse Porter purchased his house and renovated it.

Key West Tours – Two Popular Sightseeing Spots

Sightseeing takes on special meaning when you’re on any Key West tours. That’s because this island city has so

much to see and take in. There are so many different aspects to Key West. For instance, there’s the historic side.

It’s captured in the beautifully renovated old houses of Old Town. Then there’s the laid back happy-go-lucky

culture. To get a taste of that flavor of Key West, you need to do a Duval Street Pub crawl and spend time

roaming Mallory square at the evening Sunset festival.

Can you ignore that side of Key West that brings up bars of gold, silver and other treasure? The sea beds around

the coral reefs are strewn with sunken treasure. To get a taste of this adventure you need to go scuba diving to

all the shipwreck sites and visit the Mel Fischer museum.

Then there’s the modern day Key West. The city has evolved and developed into an ultra-modern American city

with all the latest amenities. The luxury resorts here are amongst the best in the world. So are the many

beautiful marinas scattered around the islands.

The Key West aquarium captures both, the old world Key West and its modern avatar. Here you get to come up

close with the iconic marine life of these islands (the way the early settlers did), in a safe and convenient

environment where even little kids can touch and feel the exhibits…thanks to advances in knowledge and

modern technologies.

The Ripley’s Believe-it-or-not Odditorium is another popular sight-seeing spot. It complements the awe-

inspiring spirit of this chain of island that was founded by immigrants who had a die-had, believe-it-or not (we

can do this) spirit.

On your Key West tours, make it a point to visit the Key West Aquarium and the Ripley’s Believe-it-or-not

Odditorium.

Key West Aquarium

The Aquarium is located in Mallory Square. It was opened way back in 1933 and over the years it has grown.

With the use of modern technologies it now offers fantastic displays that allow visitors to actually touch and

feel the marine life.

That’s what the ‘Touch Tank’ here is all about. Here, you can pick up a conch shell, turn it over and watch the

crab crawl shyly back inside. Did you know that the original inhabitants of Key West called themselves

Conchs? Their staple diet was these crabs, so if you haven’t tasted Conch fritters then you haven’t really had a

real Key West tour. The other exhibits you can lift and touch are the Sea Urchins, Sea cucumbers, Horseshoe

crabs, and the Giant Hermit crab.

At the Aquarium you can also feed the sting rays and watch 4 species of sea turtles, up close at the turtle

conservatory. There are lobsters and a wide variety of tropical fish also on display here.

Ripley’s believe-it-or-not Odditorium

This place can truly be called an Odditorium. All of the display here will make you wonder whether you should

really believe-it-or-not. Imagine shrunken head and rare animal skeletons. It all starts with a man-eating shark

that welcomes you, in the lobby. And an 8 ft statue of the pirate-captain sparrow.

There are so many different sides to Key West, you could miss out an important aspect if you don’t plan your

Key West tours well.

Travel Miami to Key West in Serenity and Simplicity

When in Key West, you’ll be in dilemma with its two schools of thought. The first considers the island city to

be extremely commercial while the second tags it as pretty informal. However, most locals as well as

vacationers consider it to be an amalgamation of two odds.

If you are traveling from Miami to Key West, then you are fortunate enough to taste the best of both the worlds.

While the sweetness of Miami entices you to indulge in various enthralling activities, a spicy Key West tour is

no less tempting.

What to See in Miami?

Whether you want to enjoy an authentic Cuban breakfast or explore the Magic City’s legendary museums and

historical monuments such as the Freedom Tower, you’ll get a taste of everything when in Miami.

The historic buildings in Coral Gables such as Coral Gables Merrick House, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens,

Country Club of Coral Gables Historic District, Coral Gables Art Cinema, Coral Gables City Hall, John M.

Stabile Building, and Coral Gables Museum are a treat to watch. You may also take a double decker bus tour

and see Miami from an altogether different perspective.

When done with your Miami tour, move onto your next destination, i.e. Key West.

What to See on Your Visit to Key West?

Start your trip from Duval Street; take a few steps and the first thing that you’ll notice is the Hard Rock Café.

Walk a little further and you can see hundreds of cruise-ship passengers descending on Mallory Square. For a

laid back feel, try dropping by an art gallery, hip hangout joints in Bahama Village or some clothing-optional

bars. The calm and tranquil waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic all around are an icing on the cake.

Key West for Party Enthusiasts

Duval Street; the heart of town is a unique destination for party lovers. Loud music, stale beer and scarcely shy

revelers are enough to keep you hooked on for the rest of the trip. And then, there are fun bars, popular

restaurants, rickshaw rides, live music and loads of shopping acts to add galore to your tour.

Gays and Key West

Believe it or not, but then, Key West is very gay-centric. On your visit to this beautiful island city, you can spot

same-sex couples walking hand in hand. And if you aren’t quite comfortable to these scenes, then just turn

around and look for the ubiquitous multihued flag hanging outside gay institutions and you'll know what to

expect.

How to Reach Key West from Miami?

There are plenty of choices if you are traveling from Miami. For instance, you may take a road trip to this island

city. If time is a constraint on your part, then you may also take a flight to Key West. Besides, there are shuttles,

car rentals and buses that take you to and from Miami to Key West.

For an amazing journey, we are only a call away. Bank on our tours and packages and spot the difference!

www.KeyWestTours.com
